Bir metnin başına yazılan ve içeriğini özetleyen cümleye başlık denilmektedir. Başlık metinde ilk dikkati çeken ve okunan yer olmaktadır. Okuyucuya metin hakkında ipucu vermekte ve metni okumaya davet etmektedir. Okuyucunun zihnini yönlendirerek düşüncelerini harekete geçirmekte ve metni anlamasına yardım etmektedir. Bu süreçte okuyucu başlıklar aracılığıyla metindeki bilgi ile düşünce akışını izlemekte ve anlam bütünlüğünü yakalamaktadır. Araştırmalar başlık seçiminin çok önemli olduğunu, iyi seçilmiş başlıkların okuyucuyu etkilediğini ve metni okumasını sağladığını göstermektedir. İnceleme sonunda başlıkların çoğunluğunun sekiz kelimeden uzun olduğu, önemli bir bölümünde kelime tekrarı ve gereksiz kelime kullanıldığı, noktalama işaretlerine ve kısaltmalara yer verildiği, dilbilgisi yanlışlıklarının olduğu görülmüştür. Bazılarının okuyucunun dikkatini çekme, zihnini yönlendirme ve okuma isteği oluşturma yönünden başarısız olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Bazılarının metin içeriği ile uyumlu olmadığı görülmüştür. Eğitim alanındaki düşüncelerin yayılması ve etkili olması açısından makale başlıklarına dikkat edilmesi, özenle seçilmesi, ihtiyaç duyulduğunda dil uzmanlarından yardım alınması gerekmektedir.

In this respect, the titles should be short, certain, conscious and clear; appropriate for grammar rules; include abbreviation and summary; direct the minds and not exclude 8 words. According to these rules, the titles of the articles published in three journals of educational faculty were examined in the study. Based on the examination, most of the titles were long and included repeated, unnecessary words and incorrect grammar rules. Some of them were unsuccessful about providing the readers paying attention on and motivating about reading. In this respect, it has been important to focus on titles since they encourage the spread of the ideas effectively in education.
