Abstract:

Women that make up more than half of the world’s population have made its presence felt in the area of economy with their producer role in all periods of the history. Women, who were engaged with only household chores (such as looking after the children, cooking, doing the washing, washing the dishes, etc.) as unpaid workers in the family before the industrial revolution, she started to work by selling her labour in the public area together with the industrial revolution. Although social life roles of women, who participated in work life with industrial revolution, differed and positive developments happened in her position, they have not yet been able to get rid of their traditional women roles completely. In other words, women had to maintain their traditional womanhood roles in the framework of existing social gender stereotypes while they added new roles to existing ones. Hardships and problems in work life, abundance of role expectations necessitated by home and work, that women fulfilling the expectations of these roles have no social support (help of the spouse, help of the family or relatives, help from the institutions, etc.) and resources drive women to an unsolvable situation, and cause them to be faced by double exploitation by shaking both then and their work-family balance. In this study, the work life problems (employment, equal wage for equal work, crises, having no social security, etc.) faced by women, who reached the public area from private area together with industrialization, in the context of social gender, and hardships faced by them while establishing the balance between work life and family life (traditional womanhood roles that they have to maintain) and personal, family and social results of these hardships will be examined/addressed. Articles, books, magazines and the internet regarding the research were reviewed by referring to documentary observation in this study that is in the form of compilation, and the statistical data of the research results were also included. In the subsequent process, the data obtained were interpreted by gathering under suitable captions and reported.
