Konya Alâeddin Camisi bilindiği gibi Anadolu Selçuklu Dönemi’nde inşa edilmiş en önemli anıtsal yapılardan biridir. Planı ve inşa tarihi itibariyle çok sayıda tartışma ve araştırmaya konu olan cami, Selçuklu Dönemi sonrasında da aynı işlevle kullanılmıştır. Yapı, inşa edildiği yerin zemin özelliklerinden kaynaklanan sorunlar ve yılların tahribatına bağlı olarak farklı tarihlerde çeşitli onarımlar geçirmiştir. Özellikle Osmanlı Dönemi’nde, yapının esaslı onarımlar geçirdiği muhtelif yayınlardan öğrenilmektedir. Yapının sorunları daha sonra da devam etmiş ve Cumhuriyet Dönemi’nde de çok defa onarım ve bakım yapılmıştır. Başbakanlık Osmanlı Arşivleri’nde yaptığımız araştırmalar neticesinde, yapının onarımı ve korunmasına yönelik şimdiye kadar bilinmeyen bazı belgelere ulaşılmıştır. Bu çalışmada, mimari tanımlamalardan ziyade tespit ettiğimiz arşiv belgelerinden hareketle, caminin Osmanlı Dönemi’nde (1889–1897) korunmasına yönelik olarak atılan adımlar ele alınmıştır. Korumaya yönelik fiili girişimlerden en önemlisi Sultan II. Abdülhamid Han döneminde gerçekleştirilen tamirat olmuştur. Dönemin Konya Valisi Sururi Paşa önderliğinde 1889 yılında tamamlanan onarım sayesinde caminin ibadet yapılacak duruma geldiği anlaşılmaktadır. Büyük para harcanarak onarılan caminin daha da korunaklı hale getirilebilmesi için yaklaşık beş yıl sonra yeniden onarım girişimi başlatılmıştır. Bu girişimin merkezini caminin mihrap önü kubbesinin ve türbenin külahının kurşunla kaplanma meselesi oluşturmaktadır. Arşiv belgelerinde yapıda gerçekleştirilecek bu müdahalenin gerekçeleri de açıklanmaktadır. Camideki onarım ve koruma çalışmalarının bir kısmının gerçekleştirildiği bir kısmının ise girişimden öteye geçmediğini arşiv ve arazi çalışmasından elde edilen veriler ortaya koymaktadır.

As is known, Alaeddin Mosque in Konya is one of the most significant monuments built during the period of the Anatolian Seljuks. The mosque, which has been the subject of numerous discussions and studies, has been used as a mosque since it was built. The structure has undergone several restorations at different dates because of problems with the underlying foundation and general deterioration over the years. Various publications state that the building underwent major restorations especially during the Ottoman Period. However, problems with the structure continued in later periods and many maintenance and restoration works have also been conducted during the Republic period. As the result of research at the Ottoman Archives of the Prime Ministry, some previously unknown documents relating to the preservation of the mosque have been located. This study will discuss the steps taken between 1889 and 1897 during the Ottoman Period for the preservation of the mosque with reference to these archival documents rather than architectural definitions. The most significant effective initiative for the preservation was the restoration undertaken during the reign of Sultan Abdulhamid Han II. It is understood that during this period the mosque could again be used by worshippers due to the restoration completed under the leadership of Sururi Pasha, the Governor of Konya in 1889. About five years later, restoration work was started again to provide better shelter, for which vast sums of money had already been spent. The main objective of this initiative was to cover both the dome in front of the mihrab and the cone of the tomb with lead. The reasons for this work are justified in the newly found archive documents. These documents also indicate that some proposals for the preservation and conservation of the mosque were fulfilled while others did not progress beyond initiatives.
