İnsanlar yaşamlarının her alanında ve her döneminde seçimler yapmak durumundadırlar. İnsan yaşamının her döneminde yer alan seçim yapma, ağır ve çoklu yetersizliği olan çocukların da hayatlarında her daim karşı karşıya oldukları bir beceridir. Seçim yapma becerisi, yaşam sorumluluğu kazanılması adına önemli bir beceri olmasına rağmen ağır ve çoklu yetersizliği olan çocuklara öğretimi ihmal edilmektedir. Dünyada alanyazında seçim yapma becerisinin ağır ve çoklu yetersizliği olan çocuklara öğretimine ilişkin çalışmalar olmasına rağmen, ülkemizde sınırlı sayıda çalışma seçim yapma öğretimine yöneliktir. Seçim yapma becerisi, yaşam sorumluluğu kazanılması adına önemli bir beceridir ve yaşam sorumluluğunu alma, toplum içerisinde bağımsız yaşama için seçim yapabilmek, seçim yapma olanaklarına sahip olmak çok önemlidir. Ancak ağır ve çoklu yetersizliği olan çocuklar konusunda seçim yapma becerisinin ayrı bir öneme sahip olduğu bilinmektedir. Çünkü ağır ve çoklu yetersizliği olan çocuklar yoğun iletişim problemleri yaşayabilmekte ve kendilerine seçme fırsatı tanınmadan ihtiyaçları, etkileşimde bulundukları kişiler tarafından karşılanabilmektedir. Bu kişiler seçim yapma becerisinin öneminin ve nasıl öğretileceğinin de farkında olmayabilirler. Bu çalışmada seçim yapmanın öneminin farkındalığının sağlanması amaçlanmaktadır. Bu amaçla seçim becerisinin ağır ve çoklu yetersizliği olan çocuklar için yararı ve onların bağımsızlaşmasındaki önemi anlatılmaktadır. Aynı zamanda seçim ve tercih arasındaki fark, tercih değerlendirmesinin nasıl yapıldığı, seçim yapma becerisi ve bu becerinin ağır ve çoklu yetersizliği olan çocuklara yönelik öğretim stratejilerine yer verilmektedir.
People have to make choices in every area of their lives and in every period of their lives. Choosing in every phase of human life is a skill that children with heavy and multiple deficiencies are always facing in their lives. The ability to make choices is an important skill in the name of achieving life responsibility, but the teaching is ignored to children with severe and multiple disabilities. Although there are studies on teaching to children with severe and multiple deficiencies in the field of choice in the world, a limited number of studies in our country are aimed at teaching choice. The ability to make choices is an important skill in the name of achieving life responsibility, and it is very important to take life responsibility, to be able to make choices for independent life within the society, to have the ability to make choices. However, it is known that the ability to make choices for children with severe and multiple deficiencies has a separate importance. Because children with severe and multiple disabilities can experience intense communication problems and their needs, without recognizing the opportunity to choose, can be met by the people they are interacting with. These people may not be aware of the importance of choice and how to be taught. The aim of this study is to ensure awareness of the importance of choosing. For this purpose, the benefit and importance of choice skills for children with severe and multiple deficiencies and their independence is explained. The difference between choice and preference is also included in educational strategies for children with the ability to make choices, how the preference assessment is done, and with severe and multiple deficiencies of this skill.
Human beings have to make choices on every area and period of their lives. Choice making, which appears in every period of human life, is also a skill which the children with severe and multiple disabilities always face. Even though choice making is a significant skill in achieving responsibility in life, it’s teaching to children with severe and multiple disabilities are always being neglected. In this study, choice-making skills and the teaching strategy which this skill for children with severe and multiple disabilities is explained in order to ensure awareness of choice making and its significance.
