Abstract:

This study is a type of continuation of the article “Development Course of Comparative Literature Studies in Modern Turkish Literature” published in the journal of Turkish Studies (Volume 8/8 Summer 2013). I had added a selected bibliography of written and translated books, articles, encyclopedia chapters, symposium-congress presentations, interwievs etc. at the end of the aforementioned article and stated that I would include master’s and dissertation theses in another separate article. This second article titled “Comparative Theses in Modern Turkish Literature” is about the master’s and doctoral thesis prepared at the Turkish Language and Literature Department and the Modern Turkish Literature Departments on comparative literature. Early samples of comparative theses conducted in the discipline of Modern Turkish Literature are kept in the Türkiyat Institute established by Fuat Köprülü. These theses conducted by the students of the department of Turkish Language and Literature made contribution to the comparative method. However, main theses that defined the pattern of comparative method in Modern Turkish Literature are master’s theses and dissertations. Broadening the framework, I have added the theses conducted in the philology departments of English, French, German, Italian, Russian, Arabic, Persian etc. The article also includes the theses done abroad, including the case of France, and the Departments of Comparative Literature has been established recently. Because, I personally think that theses conducted in other disciplines also make significant contributions to lerning comparative methods. Consequently, what came out of this study is a bibliography that can be used in Modern Turkish Literature. We cannot claim that this bibliography is perfect; nevertheless, we hope that it will to lead to smilar studies and to open new horizons for new researchers.
