Tüm dünyayı etkileyen çevre sorunları incelendiğinde bu sorunların en önemli sebeplerinin insan kaynaklı davranışlar olduğu görülmektedir. İnsanların çevreye yönelik olumsuz davranışlarının sebepleri ve bu davranışları etkileyen faktörler bilindiğinde insanları bu davranışlara yönelten faktörler ortadan kaldırılabilir. Bu noktadan hareketle bu çalışmanın amacı öğretmen adaylarının çevreye yönelik olumsuz davranışlarını etkileyen faktörleri ve bu davranışların sebeplerini incelemektir. Araştırma tarama modeli şeklinde tasarlanmıştır. Çalışma grubu Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart Üniversitesi'nde öğrenim gören 239 öğretmen adayından oluşmaktır. Çalışmada veri toplama araçları olarak araştırmacılar tarafından geliştirilen Çevreye Yönelik Olumsuz Davranış Ölçeği (ÇYODÖ) kullanılmıştır. Geçerlilik ve güvenirlik analizi yapılan ölçeğin KMO değeri ,789; Cronbach alpha katsasyısı ,70 olarak belirlenmiştir. Nicel verilerin analizi SPSS 18 paket programı ile t Testi ve ANOVA kullanılarak analiz edilmiş, nitel verilerin analizi ise NVİVO 9 programı ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırma sonunda öğretmen adaylarının çevreye yönelik olumsuz davranışlarının düşük ile orta düzey arasında olduğu; cinsiyet, sınıf düzeyi, anabilim dalı, gelir durumu değişkenlerinin çevreye yönelik olumsuz davranışları önemli düzeyde etkilemediği; çevre ile ilgili kulüp/dernek üyesi olma, çevreye yönelik endişe değişkenlerinin öğretmen adaylarının çevreye yönelik olumsuz davranışlarının belirlenmesinde önemli etkisinin olduğu belirlenmiştir. Öğretmen adayları çevreye yönelik olumsuz davranışları ile ilgili olarak “dikkat etmemek”, “alışkanlık olmaması”, “acele etme” ve “geri dönüşüm kutularının yaygın olmaması” nedenlerini vurgulamışlardır. Çalışma sonunda ulaşılan sonuçlarla ilgili öneriler sunulmuştur.

An analysis of the environmental problems affecting the whole world reveals that the greatest cause of these problems is human behavior. If the reasons underlying people's negative behaviors towards the environment and the factors influencing these behaviors are documented, the factors leading people to do such acts can be prevented. The aim of the present study is investigate the factors influencing preservice teachers' negative behaviors towards the environment and the reasons underlying such behaviors. The research model employed the survey model. The sample comprised 239 preservice teachers studying at Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University. The data collection instrument was Negative Environmental Behaviors Scale (NEBS) developed by the researchers. In the reliability and validity analysis, the KMO value was found to be .789 while the Cronbach's alpha coefficient was found to be .70. The quantitative data were analyzed by t-test and ANOVA on SPSS 18 software while the qualitative data were analyzed by means of NVIVO 9 software. The results revealed that preservice teachers' negative behaviors toward the environment were at low-intermediate levels; the variables of sex, class level, department, income level did not influence the negative behaviors towards the environment at a significant level; membership in environmental clubs, and environmental worries had significant effects on determining preservice teachers' environmentally negative behaviors. Preservice teachers emphasized the reasons "negligence", "lack of habit formation", "hurrying" and "nonavailability of recycling bins" for explaining environmentally negative behaviors. At the end of the study, some suggestions related to the results are presented.
