Görsel kültür kavramı güncel sisteme uyarlanan, bireyden topluma dek yayılan, kitle iletişimin yarattığı teknoloji temelli bir yenidünya anlayışı ve işleyişine işaret ederek, günlük yaşamdan sosyo-politik ilişkilere, çevre ve siyasete dek genişleyebilen küresel kültürün toplum üzerindeki müdahalesini temsil eder. Güncel Sistem bilgisayar işletim dilinde sıklıkla kullanılır. Daha özel anlamıyla ise, şimdiki zaman diliminde ortak bir amacı gerçekleştirmek için bir araya gelen, etkileşen anlamlı elemanlar topluluğudur. Araştırmada, Güncel Sistem günlük yaşamda bulundukları dizgede toplum yapısında müdahale yaratan ve kültürel anlayışın sınırlarında incelenen belirgin özellikleri vurgulamak için seçilmiştir. Bu anlamıyla terim sanat eğitimi alanında kültürel modları oluşturan görsel elemanları ve onun şekillendirdiği yapıyı kapsar. Böylece güncel sistem görsel kültür yoluyla zorunlu değişimlerin yaşandığı sanat ve estetik eğitim kavramlarını daha da önemli hale getirir. Eğitimle sanatı bir araya getirmek zordur çünkü birbiriyle sıklıkla çelişen iki uygulama biçimini kapsar; eğitim beklenen öğrenme çıktılarını, sanat ise beklenmeyeni başarmayı amaçlar. Ancak bu noktada sanat eğitim kuramının potansiyel katkısı ve kuramın ciddiyetini meşrulaştıran güncel sistemin geniş kapsamını anlamak oldukça önemlidir. Yenidünya düzeninde güncel sistem görsel kültürle analojik bir ilişki içindedir, hatta neredeyse yapısı ona eşdeğerdir. Bu nedenle güncel sistemden görsel kültüre bakmak aynı zamanda küresel kültürün toplumsal göstergelerini ve etkilerini belirlememize yardımcı olur. Araştırmada görsel ve günceli anlamlandırmada kullanılan sistem değişen paradigmalar doğrultusunda ele alınarak görsel kültür kuramı ve kültürel çalışmalarının estetik eğitim üzerine etkileri ve beklentiler tartışılmaktadır. Araştırma verileri tarama yoluyla elde edilmiştir.
