Erken Yaşta Yabancı Dil Öğretiminde Çizgi Filmlerin Dinlediğini Anlama Ve Konuşma Becerilerine Katkısı

Gün geçtikte gelişen ve değişen dünyada var olmak ve çağı yakalamak için yabancı dil öğretimi ve öğrenimi bir ihtiyaç halini almıştır. Son yıllarda çok dilliliğe verilen önem erken yaşta yabancı dil öğretimi konusunu gündeme getirmiştir. Ülkemizde de bu konu giderek önem kazanmaktadır. Bu nedenle bazı devlet okullarında ve özel okullarda 5-6 yaş grubundaki öğrencilere yabancı dil öğretildiğini söyleyebiliriz. Ancak erken yaşta yabancı dil öğretimi uygulamasında ders araç gereçleri konusunda sorunlar olduğunu kabul etmek gerekir. Bu sorunların çözümü için ise özgün ve görsel-işitsel araçlardan biri olan çizgi filmlerin yararlı ders araçları olduğu söylenebilir. Yabancı dil öğretiminde kazanılması gereken dört temel dil becerisi bulunmaktadır. Bunlar sırasıyla dinlediğini anlama-dinleme, konuşma, okuduğunu anlama-okuma ve yazma becerileridir. Her bir beceri birçok alt beceriden oluşur. Fakat okul öncesi dönemde yabancı dil öğretiminde kazanılması gereken en önemli beceriler dinleme ve konuşma becerileridir. Çünkü Lacorte ve Thurston (2009:4)’un tanımlamasına göre; “Dinleme ve konuşma, yabancı bir dili öğrenmede diğer yetilere göre daha büyük bir öneme sahiptir.” Bu çalışmanın temel amacı, erken yaşta yabancı dil öğretiminin önemini açıklamak ve çizgi filmlerin yabancı dil öğretiminde dinlediğini anlama ve konuşma becerilerine katkısını incelemektir. Çalışmamızın bir başka amacı ise, yabancı dil öğretiminde hangi yaş erken yaş olarak adlandırılır? Özgün çizgi filmler okul öncesi dönemindeki çocuklara yabancı dil öğretiminde kullanılacak uygun bir ders aracı mıdır? sorularına cevap aramaktır. Çalışma sonunda, erken yaşta yabancı dil öğretiminde çizgi filmlerin kullanılmasının en önemli iki becerinin geliştirilmesine katkı sağladığı ve öğrencilerin yabancı dil öğrenme isteklerini arttırdığı tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca bu çalışma, okul öncesi dönemde yabancı dil öğretimi/öğreniminin daha etkili şekilde gerçekleşmesi konusunda bize ışık tutmuştur.

Foreign language teaching and learning has become a need to exist and catch the age in the evolving and changing world over time. In recent years, the importance given to multilinguality has led to the subject of foreign language teaching in the early age. This is becoming increasingly important in our country. Therefore, we can say that some public schools and private schools teach foreign languages to students of the age group of 5-6 years. But it is necessary to admit that there are problems with the course tools in the practice of foreign language teaching in the early age. To solve these problems, it can be said that cartoons, which are one of the original and visual-hearing tools, are useful teaching tools. There are four basic language skills to be acquired in foreign language teaching. These are the skills of understanding-hearing, speaking, understanding-reading and writing what you listen, respectively. Each skill consists of many subcompetences. But the most important skills to be gained in the teaching of a foreign language in the pre-school period are listening and speaking skills. According to Lacorte and Thurston (2009:4) "Listening and speaking are more important in learning a foreign language than other abilities." The main objective of this study is to explain the importance of foreign language teaching in the early age and to study the contribution of cartoons to understanding and speaking skills in foreign language teaching. What age is known as early age in foreign language teaching? Are original cartoons a suitable tool to use in the teaching of foreign languages for pre-school children? Looking for answers to your questions. At the end of the study, it was found that the use of cartoons in foreign language teaching in early age contributed to the development of the two most important skills and increased the student's desire to learn foreign language. In addition, this study has made it clear to us that the teaching/learning of foreign languages in the pre-school period is more effective.

Learning a foreign language has become a need to exist and to be modern in the world changing and developing from day to day. Recent years, the importance given to multilingualism has been raised teaching a foreign language at an early age. This issue is becoming increasingly important in our country. So we can say that a foreign language is taught to students aged 5-6 at some public and private school. However it should be considered that there are some problems in application of teaching a foreign language at an early age. It can be said that animated cartoons, one of the authentic and audio-visual materials, are useful materials to solve these problems. There are four basic language skills that should be acquired in foreign language teaching. These are, respectively, listening comprehension-listening, speaking, reading comprehension-reading and writing skills. Each skill consists of several sub-skills. However the most important skills that should be acquired in foreign language teaching at preschool are listening and speaking. Because, “Listening and speaking have a greater importance than the other skills in learning a foreign language.” as the description of Lacorte ve Thurston (2009:4) The main purpose of this study is to explain the importance of foreign language teaching at an early age and to examine the contribution of authentic animated cartoons to listening comprehension and speaking skills in learning a foreign language. Another aim of our study is to find answers to these questions: what age is called an early age in learning a foreign language? Are the authentic animated cartoons suitable materials to teach a foreign language for the students at preschool? At the end of the study, it has been identified that the using of authentic animated cartoons in learning a foreign language at an early age contributes to the development of two most important skills and increases students’ motivation. In addition, this study has shed light on to teach effectively a foreign language at preschool.
