Abstract:

In this article, -(U)t suffix making nouns from verbs in Turkish construction of additional was examined. The construction of additional was classified differently by various researchers in the process of history from witnessed the first phase of the Turkish language. A large of these classifications was made mostly about formal functions of suffixes. In this study, additional classifications made earlier were evaluated, quetioned how the formal and semantic functions were discussed. However, It was stil found out that some researchers identified on several semantic function of suffixes and semantic functions of construction of additionals in this detection were evaluated. Meanings that construction of additionals added to words by researchers were collected by combining. But, at this stage, that semantic function which will be put forward in the article was not given was also emerged. Food names made with -(U)t suffix in Divan-ı Lügati't-Türk and Kutadgu Bilig was identified. In the light of datas, derived by food names with said construction of additionals of construction phases was shown. It was understood that food names designated in the process of performing the step are their common points. Therefore, it was understood that emphasized construction of additional have more different semantic function than semantic functions which other researchers revealed. As a result, -(U)t has been found that it shows that while it makes food names from verb stem or body, it passes the drying and holding phases. In line with this result, it was emphasized that it needs to focus on particularly each of suffixes in the Turkish language in point of their semantic functions.
