Köken bilgisi çalışmalarında bir sonuca ulaşmak için birbirini izleyen bilimsel birçok mantıklı süreçten geçilir ve bunun sonucunda sözcüğün kökeni ile ilgili bir karara varılır. Bununla birlikte, bu araştırmalarda aynı süreçler izlenmesine rağmen bazen birbirinden çok farklı sonuçlar elde edilebilmektedir. Bu yazıda yarlıg sözcüğünün kökeni ile ilgili yeni bir etimoloji denemesi yapılmıştır. Sözcüğün kökeni tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır. Türkçenin erken dönem metinlerinden başlamak üzere izini sürebildiğimiz yarlıg sözcüğü ve bu sözcükle ilişkili farklı gövdeler hakkında bugüne kadar birçok araştırmacı çeşitli görüşler ileri sürmüştür. Köken bilgisi sözlüklerinin madde başları dışında, bu sözcük, özgün bilimsel çalışmaların da araştırma konusu olmuştur. Aşağıda kısaca üzerinde durulacak bu araştırmalarda dikkat çeken husus yarlıg sözcüğünün kökeni ile ilgili henüz ortak bir yargıya varılmamış olmasıdır. Çalışmada sözcüğün kökeninin tespitine çalışılmış, kökün sözcükle anlam ve şekil bakımından uygunluğu araştırılmıştır. Sözcüğünün su ile ilişkisi kurularak sözcüğün kök ailesi tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır. İlk örneklerine Köktürk harfli Türkçe metinlerde rastlanan yarlıg sözcüğü söz konusu metinlerde “ihsan, bağış, hediye” anlamlarında kullanılmıştır. II. Köktürk kağanlığı döneminden kalma Türkçe metinlerde isim şekline rastlanmayan bu sözcüğün yarlıg+ka- > yarlıka- şeklindeki fiil şekliyle ise sık sık karşılaşılmaktadır. Bu çalışmada sözcüğün kökeni ile ilgili ileri süreceğimiz görüşler şimdiye kadar dile getirilmiş bu fikirlerden birçok noktadan ayrılmaktadır. Çalışma ilkemiz sözcüğün kökeni ile ilgili kesin bir kanı ortaya koymaktan öte sözcüğün kök ailesinin tespiti ve sözcük üzerinde bir köken bilgisi denemesi yapmak olarak belirlenmiştir.

In Etymological studies to reach a conclusion followed each other many scientific processes is applied. As a result, a decision is reached regarding the origin of the word. However, in spite of the same processes in these studies sometimes very different results can be obtained. In this study made a new etymology about the origins of the word yarlıg. We follow the trail of word’s “yarlıg” which we can see in early Turkish texts and this word so far about the different bodies. Many researchers have argued that a variety of opinions about etymology of this word. This word has been the subject etymological dictionaries, and independent research.
