Osmanlı Devleti’nin çöküşünü hızlandıran savaşlar silsilesinin en önemlilerinden birisi de Rumeli topraklarının kaybedildiği Balkan Savaşlarıdır. Osmanlı Devleti ilk defa kendi bünyesinden doğmuş dört devlete karşı savaşmak zorunda kalmıştır. Yunanistan, Bulgaristan, Sırbistan ve Karadağ’ın sınırlarını genişletmek amacıyla başlatmış oldukları savaşın bu devletlerin lehine gelişmesi bütün devletleri şaşırtmıştır. Bu şaşkınlığın temel sebebi İstanbul’un bile işgal edilebileceğinin görülmesidir. Yani savaşın hemen hemen her cephesinde yenilgiler alınmış ve Osmanlı ordusu Çanakkale Boğazının Gelibolu Yarım adasının dar boğazına sıkıştırılmıştır. Çanakkale Boğazının Marmara Denizine açılan en önemli stratejik kapılarından biri olan Bolayır bölgesinde görev alan Ali Fethi ve Mustafa Kemal, burada savaşın ikinci devresinde yapılan çok önemli bir muharebe olan Bolayır Muharebesinin hareket kurmay başkanlığını Ali Fethi, hareket şube müdürlüğünü Mustafa Kemal yapmıştır. Balkan Savaşları tarihine Bolayır Muharebesi ve Şarköy Çıkarması olarak geçen bu hareket yenilgiyle sonuçlanmıştır. Yenilgi üzerine ciddi tartışmalar yapılmıştır. Aslında bütün cephelerdeki yenilgiler o günden bugüne tartışılan ve sebepleri ortaya koyulmaya çalışılan bir öneme sahiptir. Fakat Bolayır Muharebesi’ni farklı kılan İttihat ve Terakki’nin önde gelen etkili şahsiyetleri, Enver Paşa, Mustafa Kemal ve Ali Fethi gibi komutanların aynı cephe ve çıkarmada görev almış olmalarıdır. Hatta Bolayır Muharebesi ve Şarköy Çıkarması ile ilgili biri Ali Fethi tarafından yazılmış olan iki eser kaleme alınmıştır. Bolayır Muharebesi ve Şarköy Çıkarmasında yenilginin sebeplerinin ve suçlunun kim olduğu konusunda yapılan tartışmalar, sorumlu komutanları görevlerinden hatta askerlik mesleğinden istifanın eşiğine taşımıştır. Günümüzde dahi komutanlar üzerine yeni yorum ve tartışmalar yapılmaya devam etmektedir.

In fact, defeats on all fronts have a special importance that to put forward the reasons discussed and studied since then. However, the Battle of Bolayır makes it different is that they took part in the front and subtraction as commanders Enver Pasha, Mustafa Kemal and Ali Fethi that they are leading influential personalities of Union and Progress.
