Abstract:

The subject of this article is the word “yiçe” which was found in various inscriptions in Old Turkish. The word being talked about was not used during Middle Turkish and after this period in Turkish accents and dialects. The words “yeme” and “yana” have been used with the same meaning with the word “yiçe” since the Old Turkish period. In this study, by using the findings of diachronic comparative linguistics providing some important information for etimology which has the key elements being called phonetics, morphology and semantics we think that it is possible to combine the word “еще” [yişo], [yişço] in Contemporary Russian and its varios derivatives used since the days of Old Slavonic and in other Slavic languages with the Old Turkish word “yiçe”. In order to achieve the objective of our study firstly the word examined in this article have been searched in some texts written in Orkhon alphabet (Old Turkish alphabet). Then, the translations and the transcriptions of these texts in various studies have been analysed and synthesized. And then, the meanings of the word “yiçe” have been determined in the texts. The translations and the transcriptions of the word in Russian and the other Slavic languages have been examined in various studies and identified in various etymological dictionaries. The eqvivalents of the word have been compared to the word “yiçe” according to phonetic, morphological and semantic rules. Also as a result of the implementation of the method of this study, the eastern part 16 of Kultegin of the Orkhon Inscriptions where the word yiçe was used has been examined and therefore some differences of pronounciation and translation into Contemporary Turkish have been identified in various studies. So some fixes have also been proposed.
