Abstract:

In this study, the comparative analysis of the environmental activities of the 19 member countries of the European Union and Turkey was studied by the Data Coverage Analysis Method. The indicators used in the analysis are: sulfur emissions, total coal and oil consumption, population, non-clean domestic stock and natural gas consumption. According to the analysis results, Austria, Hungary, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Romania, Sweden and Turkey were the least effective countries for 1997, while the Czech Republic, Poland and Greece were the least effective countries. Under the scale variable return assumption (VRS), France, Italy and the United Kingdom were also effective. In the analysis under the CRS assumption for 2007 Austria, Bulgaria, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Romania, Sweden, the United Kingdom and Turkey are effective while the VRS assumption is effective in Denmark and France. In 2007, Poland and the Czech Republic were the least active countries. As a result of the measures taken to combat air pollution, the countries have increased their environmental activity.
