Abstract:

This study was conducted in the 2014-2015 academic year with students taking the course of reviewing the Social Information Course Books in the Department of Primary Education of the University of Uludağ. In the framework of the study, the lessons were studied in 5 dimensions, including "physical qualities, content characteristics, program adjustments, language and narrative levels and visual narrative elements". Before each study, students were trained on the theoretical and conceptual framework of the study size to be focused and the criteria for the study size. There is no single reference for the relevant dimensions; the opinions, criticisms and recommendations of the Ministry of National Education, academics, teachers and various professional organizations are multi-perspective presented to students, separate for each dimensions. The preparation of the review criteria was based on national legislation, UNESCO’s advisory decisions, recommendations of national and international professional organizations and academic studies, and a 3-step scale measurement tool for each dimension was prepared. The units of the books that are being taught in high school classes 5, 6 and 7 are distributed to teachers candidates in such a way that they form individual or small working groups and the units are provided with a step-by-step analysis in the framework of a working calendar. Before scanning work, the working groups were given various scanning techniques recommendations on some of the criteria to be scanned. As a result, detailed findings have been obtained that reveal how books are seen and perceived by teachers candidates who will be their users.
