Avrupa, Afrika ve Asya kıtalarının kesişme noktasında yer alan Doğu Akdeniz Bölgesi, aynı zamanda Orta Doğu'nun büyük bir bölümünü kontrol edecek bir noktadadır. Bu bölge son dönemde zengin hidrokarbon rezervleri ile ön plana çıkmaktadır. Doğu Akdeniz Bölgesi’nin karmaşık enerji haritası çoklu dengesizlikler ve asimetriler üzerine kurulmuştur. 1950’li yıllardan bu yana bölgede zengin hidrokarbon rezervlerinin varlığı bilinmesine rağmen 2000’li yıllara kadar teknolojik yetersizlikler ve bir takım siyasi faktörlerin etkisiyle bu rezervler yönelik her hangi bir çalışma yapılmamıştı. 2000’li yıllardan sonra, dünyada hızla artan enerji ihtiyacından dolayı bu bölgedeki hidrokarbon rezervleri ilgi odağı haline dönüşmüş, kaynakların çıkartılması ve pazarlanması hususunda önemli adımlar atılmaya başlanmıştır. Ancak rezervlerin önemli bir kısmının açık denizlerde yer alması uluslararası hukuk açısından bir takım tartışmalara da neden olmuştur. Doğu Akdeniz’de Hidrokarbon rezervlerinin keşfi, Küresel aktörlerin bölgeye olan ilgilerinin de daha da artması bölgede tarihsel geçmişe sahip olan bir çok sorun gibi Kıbrıs sorununu da etkilemiştir. 1950’lerde uluslararası gündeme gelen Kıbrıs sorunu, bu dönemden itibaren yaşanılan birçok tarihsel gelişmeyle şekillenmiş, çözümsüzlüğünü günümüze kadar devam ettirmiştir. Kıbrıs sorunu üzerine eklemlenen Hidrokarbon keşfi ile, Rum Yönetimi’nin, Mısır ve İsrail ile birlikte adadaki Türklerin ve Türkiye’nin haklarını hiçe sayarak yapmış olduğu antlaşmalar bölgedeki siyasi sorunları daha da artırmaktadır. Yapmış olduğumuz bu çalışma ile Hidrokarbon rezervlerinin keşfi ile oluşan yeni enerji denkleminde artık bir enerji sorununa dönüşen Kıbrıs sorunu irdelenecektir.
The Eastern Mediterranean region, located at the crossing point of the continents of Europe, Africa and Asia, is also at a point to control a large part of the Middle East. This region has been on the forefront in recent years with its rich hydrocarbon reserves. The complex energy map of the Eastern Mediterranean region is based on multiple imbalances and asymmetries. Although the existence of rich hydrocarbon reserves in the region has been known since the 1950s, until the 2000s, due to technological insufficiency and a number of political factors, no research was done on these reserves. After the 2000s, due to the rapidly growing energy demand in the world, the hydrocarbon reserves in this region have become the focus of interest, and significant steps have begun in the extraction and marketing of resources. However, the fact that a significant part of the reserves are placed in the open seas has also led to a number of disputes in terms of international law. The discovery of hydrocarbon reserves in the Eastern Mediterranean has also affected the Cyprus problem, as well as a number of problems with a historical history in the region, as well as the increased interest of global actors in the region. The issue of Cyprus, which came to international agenda in the 1950s, has been shaped by many historical developments that have been experienced since this period, and has continued its insolvency until today. With the hydrocarbon discovery added to the issue of Cyprus, the treaties made by the Rom government, together with Egypt and Israel, by neglecting the rights of the Turks and Turkey on the island, further raise the political problems in the region. With this study we have done, the new energy equation formed by the discovery of hydrocarbon reserves will now address the issue of Cyprus, which becomes an energy problem.
