When the art is called mass and surface, the first thing that comes to mind is the mass of the statue and the painting is the art of the surface. When the statue is said, the three-dimensional objects that cover the ground in the space, the shadow falls to the ground; when the picture is said, the surfaces interfered with a set of vehicles and painted, the trace left is thought. However, the forms of expression that occur in the critical poles of modernist art make it difficult to draw the boundaries of these two spaces today. This text discussed how the classification of traditional sculptures and paintings based on mass and surface is problematized by examples from today’s art. Although interdisciplinary production erupted the boundaries between statue and painting, it was still noted the parallel history of painting and painting in the traditional sense.
