Finansal sistemin en büyük paydaşı olarak bankacılık sektörü; mevduat, kalkınma ve yatırım ile katılım bankacılığı olarak sınıflanmaktadır. 1983 yılında bankacılık sektörüne girmiş olan katılım bankalarında en önemli ilke, faizsizlik ilkesidir. 2005 yılı içerisinde Bankacılık Kanunu’yla getirilen düzenlemeyle katılım bankaları, bankacılık sistemine dahil edilmiştir. Katılım bankaları, kâr ve zarara dayalı olarak faaliyetlerini yürütmektedir. Toplumsal talep sonucunda ortaya çıkan katılım bankaları, finans ürünlerini üretebilen, hizmet ağı bakımından ülke geneline yayılan kurumlardır. Bu kurumlar bir yandan finans sisteminin olumlu yönde gelişmesine katkı sağlarken, bir yandan da reel sektörün büyümesine destek sağlamaktadır. Faizsiz finans olarak tabir edilen İslami finans sektörünün ve katılım bankacılığının hızlı gelişimi, sektörün uluslararası finans piyasalarında ön plana çıkmasına neden olmuştur. Bununla birlikte, Müslüman nüfusun yoğun olduğu ülkelerde katılım sigortacılığı da gittikçe önem kazanmakta ve uygulanabilirliğinin arttığı görülmektedir. Özellikle dini hassasiyetlerin yön verdiği katılım sigortacılığı, Türkiye’de de yeni yeni uygulama alanı bulmuş olması doğrultusunda diğer ülkelere göre henüz istenen uygulama düzeyine erişememiştir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, faizsiz finans sektöründe ön plana çıkan katılım bankacılığı ve katılım sigortacılığı konularını incelemektir. Çalışmanın yöntemi, literatür taramasına dayanmakta olup ayrıca bilimsel verilerle de desteklenmektedir. Çalışmada, katılım bankacılığının ve sigortacılığının İslami finans piyasası içerisinde giderek artan bir öneme ve paya sahip olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmaktadır.
