Sezai Karakoç, sanat ve düşünce hayatının dikkat çeken isimlerdendir. Şair, sanatçı kimliği ile ön plana çıksa da genellikle ortaya koyduğu düşünsel yönelimle ele alınmaktadır. Düşüncesinin ana eksenini oluşturan “diriliş” kavramı; sanat, kültür ve siyaset çevrelerine birçok açıdan etki etmiştir. Bu etki, günümüzde decanlılığını korumaktadır. Nitekim şair,İslamî geleneği temsil eden Mehmed Akif ve Necip Fazıl gibi öncü şahsiyetlerin devamı gibi görülmektedir. Farklı türlerde birçok eser veren Karakoç’un bazı şiirlerinin popülerleştiği söylenebilir. Sürgün Ülkeden Başkentler Başkentine şiiri, bunlardan biri olarak anılabilir. Şiir, dört bölümlük uzunca bir şiirden oluşur. Dördüncü yakarış bölümü ise, beş birimden oluşan serbest bir yapıdadır. Şiirde, yoğun bir duygu ve düşünceeşliğinde arzu edilenin gerçekleşmesi beklenmektedir. Şiirin bütününe yayılan bu yakarış hali, biçime de etki ederek üslûbu şekillendirmiştir. Seslenen ben ile yakarılan varlık, birimlerde yapının iki ana unsurunu oluşturur. Şiire dair farklı belirlemeler ileri sürülse de söylemin ilahî bir eksende oluşturulduğu ve Tanrısal bir umudu imlediğiaçıktır.
