Abstract:

This study aims to study the level of understanding of classical and digital stories prepared according to the age and levels of children of the 5-6-year-old pre-school period and according to the situations of listening to individuals and groups. The research has used a screening model. The study group, conducted in the 2018-2019 educational year, consists of 50 children who study in the main class and age between 60-72 months. In the study, a total of four stories of the same publisher were used. 2 classical stories and 2 digital stories were recorded by the process video by reading to children for 5 weeks. The children’s answers to the question of understanding after the story were recorded by a visual analysis. The video recordings were used to analyze their behavior while listening to the group and individual story. The study found that children received a total score of 9.72 in digital stories and 7.92 in classical stories. The results have been found that children are more interested in the process of listening to digital stories and they listen carefully. The classical stories are studied in terms of individual and group listening, with a group score of 8.32, a individual score of 7.52 and a group score of 9.50 for digital stories and a individual score of 9.94. The result is that listening to individual stories using tablets increases the children’s level of understanding, increases their physical behavior by being influenced by each other while listening to the story with the group, and they are more inactive in individual listening.
