Abstract:

One of the basic principles of academic writing is the provision of a form of the writer’s position with the help of various linguistic tools with subjects. Usually, subjects are linguistic subjects that academic writers use to gain a reliable place in their disciplines by communicating with the writer’s positions and readers. It is generally recognized that the most effective way to provide a writer’s attitude is the self-memorating words. Though these items are a strong source in the provision of authors' self, these items are often not used by non-English writers due to cultural differences in disciplines, the influence of the reader and the poor knowledge of the pragmatic role of these items by the authors. The use of self-memorating words in this study has been studied in three editions consisting of the doctoral theses of American academic writers, Turkish writers who have completed their doctorate in America and Turkish writers who have completed their doctorate in Turkish universities. There were statistical differences between these three assemblies due to cultural differences and the influence of the reader. It is observed that Turkish writers who have completed their doctorate in America have formed their writer positions with the combination of the standards of Turkish and American academic communities. In addition, the study also examined the various authors’ identities provided by the use of first-person editions in three editions.
