Since the 1970s, with the spread of neoliberalism globally, many developing countries, such as Turkey, have adopted the export-based growth model. The changes in the neoliberal policies and production processes and the reduction of the government’s labour controls have directly affected the labour markets by turning the forms and fields of employment into a more flexible and informal nature. But in particular, women’s labor has been more negatively affected by the patriarchal cause, which includes social gender ideologies and practices. In most places adopting this growth model, women’s labour is the main locomotive of production, while in Turkey, which has adopted the same growth model in recent dates and has similar patriarchal conditions, there has not been a similar increase in women’s employment. Therefore, the study aims to understand the impact of the implementation of neoliberal policies in Turkey on women’s employment. At this point, the employment data has been used by TIK household research and field studies on the subject. After all, it has been seen that the specific economic conditions of Turkey, due to the influence of the private and public patriarchy, and the quantity of women’s employment does not increase, while its nature has deteriorated in a manner consistent with the global trend.

With the global expansion of neoliberalism since the 1970s. Many developing countries has adopted export-led growth model like Turkey. Changes in production processes and reduction of the state’s pro-labor audit with neoliberal policies have had a direct impact on labor markets by transforming the forms and areas of employment into a more flexible an informal character. However, women’s labor has been adversely affected by patriarchy which includes gender ideology and practices. While in most places -adopted this growth model- women labor has taken place the main locomotive of production, a similar increase has not experienced in Turkey that adopted same growth model in recent time and had similar patriarchal condition with these countries. Therefore, in the study, it is aimed to understand the effect of neoliberal policies on women’s employment in Turkey. At this point, data from the TURKSTAT household surveys and field studies were used for employment data. In conclusion, it is seen that the rate of women’s employment has not increased while employment quality has deteriorated in a manner consistent with global trends due to Turkey’s specific economic conditions, the impact of private and public patriarchy.
