Abstract:

This sıudy investigaled the prior computer experiences and compuıer attitudes of preservice teachers and also the relationship between prior computer experiences, age, gender, majör and compuıer attitudes. A total of 207 preservice teachers from different majors completed the instruments measuring computer attitudes. prior computer experiences and selected personal demographics during the first term of one year long teacher education course. Computer attitudes of student teachers was measured by "Computer Attitude Scale- Marmara". The dala was analysed by using descriptive and correlational statistical techniques. Some of the majör fındings are as follows: (a) about half of the preservice teachers (49,3%) reported little sufficiency to use computers; (b) preservice teachers felt sufficient mostly word processing and felt insufficient mostly composing music, communication via computers and gathering data on INTERNET; (c) More ıhan half of the preservice teachers (63,3%) did not have computers; (d) the computer attitudes of preservice teachers were found at moderate level; (e) no relationship were found between age and computer attitude; (f) no differences were found on computer attitudes according to majors of the preservice teachers; (g) Significant differences were found on computer attitudes according to gender, percieved computer efficiecy and computer ownership. Based on these results some recommendations were offered about preservice and inservice trainning programs and future researches.
