Present study involves search made over elementary school 6th grade students to check and see whether acquired skill of understanding what’s read contribute to individual’s capacity of mathematical skills. Study having realized over a total of 69 students attending classes 6A and 6B at elementary School of Maltepe County in province of Istanbul, what’s being particular is that students were instructed both Turkish Language as well as mathematics courses by the same instructor. To analyse the data frequency distribution, mean, standart deviation, t-test, reliability analyse and one -way ANOVA statistical techniques were used and. Post test results showed that experimental group achieved significantly better than the control group on the level of acquired skill of understanding. Some useable basic tips for teachers and researchers were given. Key words: Teaching mathematics, solving problem , acquired skill of understanding , mathematical achievement
