Tüketici boykotları, işletmelerin en önemli sosyal paydaşlarından birisi olan tüketicilerin, işletme ile ilgili bir sorun veya problem olarak gördükleri çeşitli durumlar karşısında üretilen mal ve hizmetleri satın almama yönünde düzenlenen eylemlerdir. Aktivist veya savunmacı gruplar olarak nitelendirilebilecek tüketici gruplarının bu eylemleri günümüzde giderek artmaktadır ve kurumlar için hem ekonomik açıdan , hem de imaj yönünden olumsuz sonuçlar doğurabilmektedir. Halkla ilişkiler açısından değerlendirildiğinde ise bu savunmacı gruplar ile başa çıkabilmede kriz iletişimi uygulamaları önem kazanmaktadır. Kriz iletişiminde, meydana gelen krizlerde, kurum imajını korumak adına sosyal paydaşlar ile kurulacak iletişim önem kazanmaktadır. Tüketici boykotları da işletmelerin çevresel, sosyal, politik ve ekonomik bazı politikalarından kaynaklanan ve sosyal paydaşlar açısından problem olarak düşünülen bazı konular veya sorunlara yönelik olarak düzenlenen ve kurumun ürettiği mal ve hizmetlerle ilgili bir kriz çeşididir. Tüketici boykotları ile başa çıkabilmede, önemli bir halkla ilişkiler uygulaması olan kriz iletişiminden yararlanılmaktadır. Bu bağlamda bu çalışmada öncelikle tüketici boykotu kavramı üzerinde durulmuş, daha sonraki bölümde ise tüketici boykotları; kriz iletişimi açısından değerlendirilmiştir.
Consumer boycotts are actions conducted by consumers, who are one of the important social stakeholders of the enterprises, to purchase goods and services produced in the face of the various circumstances they see as a business-related problem or problem. These actions of consumer groups that can be qualified as activist or defence groups are increasing today and can bring negative consequences for institutions both economically and imagistically. When assessed in terms of public relations, the importance of crisis communication practices is gained in the ability to cope with these defence groups. In crisis communication, in crises that occur, the importance of communication with social stakeholders is to be established in order to preserve the image of the institution. Consumer boycott is also a kind of crisis related to the goods and services produced by the organization, which is organized and related to certain issues or issues that are considered a problem for social stakeholders, arising from certain environmental, social, political and economic policies of the enterprises. In coping with consumer boicots, a significant public relations implementation of crisis communication is benefited. In this context, this study first focused on the concept of consumer boycott, and in the subsequent section, consumer boycott was evaluated from the point of view of crisis communication.
Consumer boycotts are actions that are organized by consumers who are one of the most significant stakeholders of the corporations, in order not to buy products and services against various situations that they perceive as a problem. The movements of these consumer groups that can be referred as activist or defensive groups, are increasing in today’s world and they can beneath the economic situation and the image of the corporations. If they are evaluated in terms of public relations, crisis communication practices are gaining importance in coping with these activist groups.Communicating with stakeholders on behalf of protecting the corporate image is very important in crisis communication. Consumer boycotts are organized against some issues that are based on some environmental, social, politic and economic policies of the corporations and considered as problems and they are a kind of product or service crisis. In order to cope with consumer boycotts, crisis communication which is an important public relations practice is being used. In this context, “consumer boycott” concept is emphasized at first and afterwards, consumer boycotts are evaluated in terms of crisis communication.
