Tarihsel süreç içerisinde baskýnýn ilk sanatsal örneklerinin (ahþap baský olarak)Japonya'da yapýldýðý bilinmektedir. Japonya'da Ukiyo-E zamanýnda renkliahþap baskýnýn ilgi görüp ve günlük yaþamýn birçok alanýnda kullanýlmasý,baskýnýn geliþmesine/yayýlmasýna neden olmuþtur. Japon baský sanatý20.Yüzyýlýn baþlarýnda hýzla geliþen sanat hareketlerinden de etkilenerek yeniörneklerle kendi geliþimini sürdürmüþtür. Geliþen teknolojiler düþünce biçiminizenginleþtirmiþ; yeni ifade olanaklarýnýn, yeni malzeme ile çeþitli tekniklerinuygulanmasýnýn ortaya çýkmasýna neden olmuþtur
