Abstract:

Lawrence Weiner (d.1942, New York) articulates existence beyond common physicalitywith simple signs rahter than detailed imagery. Weiner’s journey of art which startedwith painting and sculpture, continued with a language in a perspective that can befound closer to graphic language or literature,which included the name of the object —instead of the object itself— and its relation to its environment. His installations anddrawings in which typography dominates, his ability to give meaning to a piece ofpaper, to a book or a notebook with varied composition and misepage, his approachto the wall together with the space like an environmental graphic designer but with theindependence of an artist that adds new meanings and scope to typography makesWeiner a master who needs to be explored by the graphic designer
