Abstract:

There is a paradigm shift in sports sciences. Social life which includes sport is changing, our perceptions and interests are changing. Our ontological, epistemological assumptions and therefore our methodological assumptions are changing. Therefore, in Turkey and in the world, the number of qualitative studies has been increased in recent years. However, we cannot see the similar increase in the quality and wealth of the quality studies. Because young sports scientists who are learning and practicing qualitative research have a fuzzy instruction (Koca and Hünük, 2016). One of the reasons for this is that they cannot position the learning resources of qualitative research into their research contexts. In this article, I aimed to position qualitative research into sports and sports sciences. I tried to discuss the fundamental features of qualitative research, paradigm, research designs, data collection techniques, data analysis, and credibility strategies within the context of sports sciences. I hope I will provide a route map to the sports scientists who would like to conduct a qualitative study.
