Abstract:

Bir toplumda eğitimin en genel amacı, o toplumu oluşturan bireyleri, toplumsallaştırıp, topluma yararlı hale getirmektir. Bireylerin toplumsallaştırılması ve yetiştirilmesini sağlayacak kurum okullar olup bunu sağlayacak uzman kişi de öğretmendir. Bu durum, okulun niteliğinden çok öğretmenin niteliğini, öğretmenlik mesleği ve mesleğin toplumsal statüsünü önemli hale getirmektedir. Araştırmanın amacı; öğretmenlerin, öğretmenlik mesleği ve öğretmenlik mesleğinin toplumsal statülerine ilişkin görüşlerinin belirlenmesi adını taşıyan bu çalışmanın genel amacı; Burdur ilinde görev yapan öğretmenlerin, öğretmenlik mesleği, bu mesleğe etki eden meslek içi ve meslek dışı etmenleri belirlemek ve öğretmenlik mesleğinin statüsünün yükseltilmesi ile ilgili önerileri ortaya koymaktır. Araştırma Modeli; öğretmenlerin, öğretmenlik mesleği, bu mesleğe etki eden meslek içi ve meslek dışı etmenleri belirlemek ve öğretmenlik mesleğinin statüsünün yükseltilmesi ile ilgili önerileri ortaya koymayı amaçlayan bu araştırmada için tarama modeli kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın evren ve örneklemi; araştırmanın evrenini, 2016-2017 eğitim- öğretim yılında Burdur il, ilçe ve köylerinde görev yapmakta olan 3.344 sınıf ve branş öğretmeni oluşturmaktadır. Örneklemini ise; Burdur il merkezi, ilçe ve köylerinde görev yapan öğretmenler arasından sınıf ve branş öğretmenleri ayrı ayrı düşünülmeden, rastgele, basit seçkisiz örnekleme yöntemine seçilen 334 kadın, 323 erkek olmak üzere toplam 657 öğretmen oluşturmuştur. Sonuç olarak; öğretmenlik mesleğinin sahip olduğu toplumsal statünün son yıllarda giderek düştüğü ve öğretmenlik mesleğinin toplumsal statüsünün yetersiz olduğu ifade edilebilir. Öğretmenlerin mesleği tercih ederken mesleğin saygınlığı noktasında kararsız olduklarını beyan etmeleri de söz konusu olan bulguları destekler niteliktedir. Öğretmenlerin öğretmenlik mesleğini severek tercih ettikleri, meslekten manevi haz umdukları, mesleğin yapılan işe göre maddi getirisininü yeterli olmamasına ve düşük statüsüne rağmen mesleği bırakma düşüncelerinin olmaması ve çevrelerine dahi mesleği önereceklerini belirtmeleri öğretmenliğin ne kadar kutsal bir meslek olduğuna işaret ettiği belirtilebilir. Dolayısıyla ölçekten elde edilen bulguların bir düzen içinde birbirini destekler nitelikte olduğu ifade edilebilir. Buna göre, öğretmenler yaptıkları mesleğin toplum nezdinde düşük statülü bir meslek olduğu inanıcıyla, eğitim sisteminin kendilerinden beklediği kazanımları ne verimlilikte gerçekleştirebilecekleri merak konusudur. The institutions that will provide socialization and bring up the individuals are schools and the specialists who will provide it are teachers. This makes quality of the teacher, teaching profession and social status of profession more important than quality of the school. Research purpose; the general purpose of this study, which has the name of identifying views of teachers on teaching profession and the social status of the teaching profession, is to determine the opinions of teachers working in Burdur on teaching profession and professional and non-professional factors affecting this profession and to offer suggestions for promotion of status of teaching profession. In order to reach this general objective. Research population and sample; the population of the research composes of 3.344 classes and branch teachers who are working in city centre, towns and villages of Burdur in 2016-2017 education year. The sample composes of a total of 657 teachers, 334 female and 323 male, selected from the teachers working in Burdur’s city center, towns and villages by using simple random sampling method. According to this, it was concluded that teachers believe their wages they earn compared to the work they do are unfair, and the profession’s economic return is far from meeting their needs. It can be said that the social status of the teaching profession has gradually fallen in recent years and the social status of teaching profession is inadequate. . Teachers’ declaration about they are hesitant at the point of occupational prestige while choosing this profession also support the findings. As a result, it can be said that teaching is a holy proffession because teachers states that they prefer their professions as they like, they expect spiritual pleasure from the profession, they do not have thought of leaving the profession although the profession’s economic return is not enough compared to work and low status and they will even recommend to their social environment. . Therefore, it can be said that the findings obtained from the scale support each other in an order. According to this, it is wondered how teachers realize achievements that the education system expected from them with the belief that the profession they do has a low-status in society.
