Abstract:

Ottoman Music is a great synthesis art, which is colored and enriched with the participation of a wide variety of ethno-cultural elements that are built in the military, religioun-sufism, palace and elite circles directly related to the music as the music of the Empire. The secret to the rapid development, and to the digest of the influence within itself as well as around it, is the perfect synthesis. Since the second half of the sixteenth century, new cultural centers have gradually replaced the earlier cultural centers of Islamic geography such as Damascus, Tabriz or Baghdad. The composers and performers of the period begin to grow in Istanbul, Bursa and Edirne. A new style of music appears and thus begins to appear in Ottoman / Turkish music. In addition to the value they add to the music, these composers have been the ones who have done their music in different maqams and forms, the theorizing of this music and the students who have stamped Ottoman / Turkish music in terms of the students they educated. In this study, composers, who left their mark on Ottoman/Turkish music, are investigated and their contributions on the development of our music are tried to be explained.
