Abstract:

Because health services are aimed at human health, it is quite difficult to go to material restrictions during treatment and operations. However, activities aimed at the effective use and storage of materials can be carried out. Supply of materials at low cost and in time, to ensure effective and efficient resource management, to ensure material management activities independent of individuals, internal process improvement and development work can be carried out. The study, at the point where the supply of materials for hospitals and management may be critical to other units, within the unit that supplies materials to the surgery, takes the material management to be examined by the process management technique. The area of application is the surgical storage unit of a university hospital, where 35695 surgeries are performed annually and 639 different products are used during these surgeries, serving 21 simultaneous operations. The study took advantage of process improvement techniques such as brain storm, cause-result diagram, pareto analysis, distribution diagram, process maps, comparison. After the meetings and field examinations in the study, 14 major problems arose with a brain storm. 5 of these problems were not taken to be evaluated for pareto analysis, the remaining 9 problems were examined by experts. After the analysis, the situation that caused many errors found that a model was not used in stock management and there were problems related to it. The ABC analysis and economic order quantity method offered as a solution provides time savings in the supply and storage of materials. In the current process, the supply and storage process of the surgical material; 372 minutes while the total processing time in the recommended process has decreased to 291 minutes. The study, the functioning of the operation material warehouse unit, the comprehensive and process management technique assessment, the findings obtained and the methodological diversity that the study hosts, can be expressed as it provides valuable information to the hospital managers and researchers. It may be recommended that regulators and executives implementing health policies, bureaucrates and senior managers, especially in the entry section, take into account the statistical values of the health expenditure and expenditure of Turkey and the future population structure. In order to make the country’s resources more efficient and efficient, it is necessary that the resources be managed professionally and that managers may be advised to develop strategies in this direction.
