Abstract:

Abstract Medea is a mythological figure that has been a source of inspiration for works of art from Ancient Greece to now. Medea, who was made a scapegoat by the patriarchal thought, has been seen in every form of art as a child-killer mother, and that theme has been appreciated until today. Christa Wolf, who applied a different approach towards the theme from Euripides and Seneca, traced the history of the myth. Contrary to those two writers, instead of a child-killer mother, he portrayed Medea as a mother whose children were murdered by the society. How people dissemble to gain power and how they manipulate things for their own benefit are reflected in his novel. This study also includes the theme of sacrifice. Keywords: Argonauts, Medea, Euripides, Seneca, Christa Wolf, Scapegoat, Sacrifice.
