Abstract:

This study was carried out in order to develop likert type scale that will be used for assessing attitudes towards “Individual Instrument” class. Stages of developing the scale can be lined in this way: Firstly, literature review was made which was the beginning stage of the study. Similar studies were analyzed, a basic idea was created and 60 students in Gazi University, Faculty of Fine Arts Education, Department of Music Education, in 2010 academic year’s fall semester attended the study and they were required to write compositions about their views on individual instrument class. In scope of the obtained data, a draft scale made of 36 items including 20 positive and 16 negative propositions was prepared. Draft scale was sent to professionals for content validity, and in line with feedbacks, scale was rearranged and conducted on 373 students studying vocational music in various universities. Structural validity of the scale was determined by making factor analysis. Varimax rotation principle component analysis was used in factor analysis. On the other hand, internal consistency coefficient of the scale and total item correlations were calculated and it was determined that Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficient was α=0,947, KaiserMeyer Olkin (KMO) was 0, 96. When all of these obtained data is analyzed, it can be said that Individual Instrument Class Attitude Scale is a valid and reliable scale.
