Abstract:

The aim in this research is to investigate the effects of the inquiry based activities that are convenient for 5E model on attitudes and behaviours of 5th grade students related to the environment. The pre-test and post-test control group model in the quasi-experimental research models was used. The study group consisted of 24 experimental and 23 control group of 47 5th grade students. In the experimental group, inquiry based activities that are convenient for 5e model prepared by researchers were performed during 4 weeks. The quantitative data were obtained by attitude survey and qualitative data were obtained by open-ended questions, interviews and document review works. According to the findings, the practices in the experimental group caused a significant increase on the attitudes towards the environment but the difference was not significant when compared with the control group. It was concluded that the experimental group students’ positive behaviours increase by the open-ended questions examined the behaviour on the environment and by the data obtained from interviews and diaries.
