The wedding ceremonies, as well as the birth and death ceremonies are accompanied with many beliefs and practices. This beliefs and practices are particularly significant in terms of displaying the mythic perceptions. At this point, both partners (“the bride” and “the groom”) pass to another status in their life. These kind of reasons made “passing the threshold” obligatory. “The threshold” and “passing the threshold” has a particular importance for the bride, who leaves her family home, and goes to groom’s/husband’s home as a foreigner, respectively the other. In the Turkish weddings, the groom passes the threshold together with the bride. Moreover, the bride and the groom enter the home with prayers and various practices as a sign of their joint life as a husband and wife. This study aims to reveal the place of the threshold, in the wedding belief and practices of the Kosovo Turks. The perceived beliefs and practices are sporadically compared to the beliefs of Anatolia Turks. We used data gained from the oral and writtens ources. We came to the conclusion that “the threshold” and “passing the threshold” has a significant place and function in the Kosovo Turks’ wedding ceremonies, moreover, its importance is passed to the present modern age.
