Abstract:

Abdullah Hâtıfi, the son of Mevlana Abdurrahman Câmî’s sister, lived during the late Timurid and early Safevid eras and he created a hamse. Timurnâme written by him in the style of şehname was one of his two poetic works on history. This work includes the military campaigns of Timur from his birth to death. In the Turkish literature, the impact of Hâtıfî can be observed on the works of Lâmi’î, Fuzûli and Halife. He received auspices of Mirzâ Hüseyin Baykara and his friend and vizier Alişîr Nevâyi and he wrote Timurnâme upon the request of the Timurid sovereign of the time. Although it differs from copy to copy the number of verses in the work is more than 4700. In this study, the life of Abdullah Hâtıfi, the copies of Timurnâme, the reliability of his Timurnâme as a historical source and his opinions concerning the literary texts of Beyazid I. era, which are significant for the Ottoman history, will be explained and discussed.
