In this study, the effect of using “creative drama” method was investigated on the students' achievement, attitudes and retention of teaching in the “From Production to Consumption” unit in the learning strand of “Production, Consumption, Distribution” of the 4th grade Social Studies Course of primary school in 2015-2016 academic year. Quasi-Experimental design with pre-test-post-test control group was used in the research. While the lesson plans prepared with the creative drama method were performed in the experimental group, the students in the control group were taught with the methods and techniques suggested by the curriculum. In the study, “Social Studies Attitude Questionnaire”, which was developed by MNE, was used to determine students' attitudes towards social studies course. Attitude questionnaire was applied as pre-test, post-test and permanence test. Data obtained from the study were analyzed by t-test and two-way ANOVA tests. Statistical procedures were performed on the 22th edition of SPSS software. Findings obtained from the research results says that the use of creative drama as a method in the Social Studies lesson has positively affected the students’ academic achievements, attitudes and the persistence of the learned knowledge. In this respect, it is proposed to increase the use of creative drama method in practice in social studies lesson.
