With the transition to a multi-party life, the democratic regime of the Republic of Turkey’s has been the subject of interventions with military coups, announcement of memorandums and other various reasons. The July 15th coup attempt took its place in the history of Turkish Democracy as a phenomenon which was witnessed by the new generation. The aim of this research is to investigate the perceptions of the middle school eighth grade students on the July 15 coup attempt. This study was designed with a phenomenology model, which is one of the qualitative research methods, and 63 eighth grade students from 3 middle schools representing 3 different socio-economic levels in Ordu city center participated in this research. The research data was collected through a semi-structured interview form. Interview data were thematically analyzed by means of phenomenological analysis. According to findings; it was found that the students felt fear, anxiety and sadness when they learned the coup attempt was true, the coup attempt was the night they experienced in fear and anxiety; the commemoration program were informative in the first lessons of the school and the fact that there was not an event affecting them in their surroundings after the coup attempt but some students mentioned the victimized relatives and stated that they were under injustice. In addition to these results, the students were most affected by the “Ömer Halisdemir” and “martial law declaration” regarding the coup attempt; they also expressed negative feelings such as “insecurity and hatred” as well as positive emotions such as “homeland love” and “democracy consciousness”.
