The study aims to investigate academic achievement of art teacher candidates on basis of different variables The study employing descriptive characteristics with relational survey design consists of a working group of 97 3rd and 4th year students accepted to the Department as a result of talent exams and enrolled in the Department of Fine Arts in Abant İzzet Baysal University Faculty of Education attending daytime course programs and evening course programs in 2007 2008 educational year SPSS 15 package program was used in data analysis Frequencies and percentage distribution was calculated and tabulated and the relationships between the variables in the study are computed by using Maan Whithney U Test t test was utilized to identify whether there was a difference between two group means Research findings show that there are not any meaningful relationships between academic achievement scores of art teacher candidates and variables such as gender accommodation type of education and their field and non field grade averages Significant differences were found to be existed between non field grade averages with class levels and type of high school the candidates graduated from
