Abstract:

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between the attitudes of education faculty students towards smoking dependence and life satisfaction and to determine whether these variables differ according to gender and class level. The study was conducted in a relational survey pattern in quantitative study method. The study group consisted of  925 university students aged 17-40 years old in the Faculty of Education at Afyon Kocatepe University. Data collection tools were used as 'Personal Information Form', 'Attitude Scale for Smoking Addiction' and 'Life Satisfaction Scale'. In the analysis of the data Pearson Product Moment Correlation Analysis, t test, One-Way Variance Analysis, Post Hoc Tukey Test, were used, and the demographic variables were subjected to percentage and frequency distribution analysis. According to the result of the study, it was found that the rate of people who smoke everyday is %29.4, the rate of people who smoke a day or once a week is %7.7 and the rate of non smokers is %62.9. According to the scale about the attitude towards cigarette addiction, it was found that three is a significant relationship in the same direction with a low level between the profiles of smokers ,the attitude towards smoking ,the subscales of harm of smoking and life satisfaction. There is a significant relationship in the opposite direction with a low level between the advantages of smoking and positive attitude towards smoking. It was found that there was a significant difference in all subscales of the life satisfaction scale according to the gender and the attitude scale for the smoking dependence scale. In addition, it was determined that the difference between the class level and the advantages of smoking and its sub-dimension and life satisfaction was significant.
