In this study we aim to investigate the effect of oil price changes on firms’ profitability performance. The analysis is conducted between the years 2000- 2015 on Borsa İstanbul (BIST) manufacture sector. Turkey, as an oil importer country, oil price fluctuations affect the Turkish economy in macro scope, and thus the firms experience the effect in micro level by variation of profits. We employ panel data approach in System GMM method. The analysis reveals that the change in oil prices on firm profitability is significant and negative. Furthermore, we find that the effect occurs lagged by one year on Tobin’s Q and return of equity (ROE). The relation between oil prices and Tobin’s Q is more stronger than ROE.
