The aim of this study is to investigate perceptions of primary student teachers rsquo; about the concept of ldquo;academician rdquo; through metaphor analysis who are studying at Kocaeli University Primary Teaching Department The data were collected from a teaching class studying 31male 103 female a total of 134 students in the academic year 2010 2011 Kocaeli University Faculty of Education This is a descriptive study since it aims to display existing situation Within this framework the metaphors developed by student teachers were analyzed and commented in five steps: 1 Determining metaphors 2 Classification of metaphors 3 Developing categories 4 Conducting validity and reliability and 5 Transferring quantitative data into SPSS package program The metaphors about academic concepts developed by teacher candidates were analyzed that whether or not change according to different category Result of the study 111 of the students produced 61 current metaphors Produced metaphors are positive 43 negative 18 According to metaphors by reasons are classificationed including source of information critics producer of information guidance and other
