Abstract:

The Westernization movement, which began to be seen in the 18th century, also influenced the Ottoman Empire and this movement took the second place. It reached the summit of the Ottoman State when it came to the II. Constitutional Monarchy. During this period, it was seen that the problems experienced by many Ottoman intellectuals were determined and expressed in a number of ideas. Ottomanism, Islamism, Turkism and Westernism around the intellectual movements gathered around the intellectuals, in different ways, even though the Ottoman Empire, and the situation in order to prevent the bad direction of the idea of ​​correcting. One of the intellectuals of the period is seen in Celal Nuri İleri. In this study, the opinions of Celal Nuri, who is seen as one of the important names in the history of Turkish modernization, has been evaluated. The impact of the Westernization movement on the collapse of the Ottoman Empire was mentioned, and the views of Celal Nuri on Turkish modernization and the Westernization movement in the Ottoman Empire were included. Celal Nuri, who has an understanding of Westernization that does not reject the tradition, has expressed his ideas towards Westernization by being influenced by evolutionist opinion.
