Uşak sugar factory was established within the early years of the Republic under the supervision of Mr. Nuri (Şeker). He is a local tradesman and today he is almost seventy years old. The establishment titled Uşak Terakki-i Ziraat takes over TAŞ and developes it into a sugar factory. He finds partners, brings machinery from the Skoda factories in Europe and operationalize the factory in 1926. This enterpreneurship pioneers other sugar factories. The state encourages sugar beet production by providing incentives from Sanayi and Maadin Bank. However, the Lozan Agreement disallows the usage of customs for five years. This situation weakens protection against importing. As a result, the state puts sugar production in a monopoly. This business never gets profit and the banks seize control of the factory. Ultimately, Uşak sugar factory and three other factories (Alpullu, Eskişehir, Turhal) are delivered to Turkey Sugar Factories Joint Stok Company. Uşak sugar factory is a pioneer in Turkish enterpreneurship. We can observe this pioneering in accounting practices, auditing and initial public offering issues. This business set an example for the economic state enterprises that were widespread after 1933.
