This study has aimed to reveal the conception of “Patient Rights Council Members” on patient rights. The sample of the study consisted of 50 volunteer council members (doctors, social workers, lawyers, nurses, and other staff) in Istanbul. It utilized the “General Scanning Method” and the findings were analyzed by SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) program. The basic findings in this research were the following: Most of the council members who were interviewed were married middle-aged men with a university degree. Over the half of the members indicated that they were not informed about the “Patient Right Act in Health Institutions”. Only 24% of the Patient Council Members who were interviewed, directly mentioned notions like “humane life, human rights and dignity” in their definitions of “patient rights”.
