In general, accreditation is a system for guaranteeing that the goods and services are offered to society in certain excellence standards. Accreditation in higher education is a process that aims to demonstrate an education institution or any program implemented by an education institution have particular performance standards (quality, efficiency, effectiveness, etc.) at national and / or international level and thus, to build trust in the presence of public for parties demanding higher education. The main purpose for accreditation standards in higher education is not only to improve quality of academic activities, but to ensure sustainability of transparency and auditability as well. Therefore, accreditation is not a one-off procedure. On the contrary, it consists of periodic evaluation processes conducted by an independent accreditation agency. In recent years, accreditation applications in higher education institutions and programs in our country have gained importance. In terms of social work education/training, the statement is not all positive. There is not yet a bachelor’s or master’s program in social work education which has completed its’ accreditation process. In this study, a proposal for a model framework is presented including a general overview of accreditation standards of social work programs, numbers of which have been dramatically increasing since the 2000s. In this context, a set of standards have been developed regarding basic elements for the accreditation of social work programs; the objectives of the program, outcomes of the program, education / training plan, teaching staff, background, organizational structure and decision-making processes.
