The purpose of this study is to investigate attitudes towards mathematics of second grade students in public high school, and mathematics achievement, and finally relationship between studentsâ attitudes towards mathematics and mathematics achievement. Studentsâ attitudes towards mathematics were determined by scale of attitude which was developed by Aşkar (1986). Studentsâ mathematics achievement was determined by achievement test which was developed by author. In this research, the instruments (mathematics attitude scale, achievement test) were administered to 500 students of the second grade from eighth different high schools in Ankara. Results of data analysis indicated that more than half of students had positive attitudes towards mathematics. However, more than third five (68,4%) failed to mathematics according to score of mathematics achievement test. Significant differences were found between studentsâ attitudes towards mathematics and mathematics achievement.
