The optic course is one of the difficult lessons which are thought in both physics departments of science and education faculties. Besides requiring not only optical knowledge but also mathematical knowledge this course also requires visual skills and experimental skills. Therefore, students dont like and as a result they fail most of the time. The aim of this research is to develop an attitude scale towards optics course to put forward present situation of the studentsâ attitudes and to indicate the effects of gender and department variables on them. The Likert type scale with 56 items which has been developed by the researchers was applied 221 science and education faculty students who passed optic lessons for the validity and reliability of the scale. It was found that the scale has three sub-factors. The gathered data were analysed by using SPSS 11.00. At the end, a scale with 43 items was developed with croanbach ? of 0.96. In addition, it was found that the studentsâ gender donât effect the their attitudes but their departments effect their attitudes towards optics course.
