Abstract:

The purpose of this study is to explore the views of the history department students on field trips and museums visits with activities that applied in the museum. The museums are institutions where natural, historical, artistic, scientific values related objects are kept, preserved, examined and exhibited. Museums, historic places and historical buildings are indispensable sources for learning and teaching history. These places can be used for learning and teaching purposes at all stages of education. In the study, the phenomenology method was used. The convenience sampling method was used for the study group. Twenty students studying in the history department of the faculty of arts took place in the study group. A trip to a historic site and a visit to a museum were held to reveal the views of the participants. Opinion form was used to collect data. There are four open-ended questions in the opinion form. Phenomenological analysis was used in the analysis of the data. The results show that participants expressed that the activities held in the museum provided permanent learning, developed cooperation, and that they found the perspective to be beneficial and useful. Participants expressed their feelings about the events held in the museum as fun, exciting, beautiful, unusual, interesting and surprising. Participant’s views about museums; museums provide visual richness, awareness, and social contribution. They pointed out that museum education is important as teaching and learning and personal development.
