Abstract:

The purpose of this research is to study how the roles of teachers, students, guardians and directors in the school’s communication networks are reflected in films, which are a visual hearing source. For this purpose, Ron Clark's Story film was addressed by the method of document analysis based on roles in communication networks. The analyses were performed through the scenes that were thought to be related to the subject. The findings have shown that the film’s scenario is an example for the roles of communication networks in schools. The findings obtained from the fifteen scenes were summarized in forms by sampleing the communication networks found in schools and the roles in these networks. The analysis has found that there are two communication networks models that can be found in the film scenario in schools. The first of these is a teacher-centered communication network. This model is a communication network where the teacher is located at the center of communication and where students are group members. The film shows that it is not easy for teachers to acquire a central role in a classroom where students show behavioral disorders. The second network that can be found in schools is the manager-centered communication network. In this network, teachers are group members and the school manager is in the central role.  Each teacher plays the role of a bridge between the teacher-centered network of his classroom and the school’s manager-centered network. Teachers are also members of the bridge roles and two communication networks. Parents have the role of communicating between teachers-centered and managers-centered communication networks in schools. They provide information transfer between the two communications networks. Students with isolated roles can be found in the communication networks found in the classes. The findings have shown that while teachers are more difficult to bring students in this role to success from academic and social communication aspects than other students to success. This research is important to be the first research that reflects the roles of teachers, students, directors and guardians in the communication networks in the school through network models, to enable the communication networks in the school to be studied by a visual and hearing way, to make the film scenario taken from real life and to make the film studied a film on the subject of education. Research can also be seen as an opportunity for teachers to question their places in their communication networks in their schools. In this sense, it is believed that it can be an example of the research that can be done in the future, and it can be beneficial for teachers and teachers candidates.
