Abstract:

Aim: In this study, the effect of perception of psychological contract breach on organizational cynicism and the role of leader-member exchange in this relation were investigated.  Method: The universe of the research is 550 people working in institutions and institutions operating in the public security sector in Erdek/Balıkesir. In this context, the scale developed by Robinson and Rousseau (1994) and adapted by Çetinkaya (2014: 131) to Turkish in order to determine the level of perceptıon of psychological contract breach; the scale developed by Brandes (1997) and adapted by Erdost et al. (2007) to Turkish in order to determine the level of organizational cynicism and the scale developed by Liden and Maslyn (1998) and adapted by Yıldız et al. (2008: 106) to Turkish in order to determine the level of leader member exchange.  Findings: According to the results of the study, it is determined that perceptıon of psychological contract breach has a significant and positive impact on organizational cynicism (β=0,59, p<0,01), and also significant and negative impact on leader member exchange (β=-0,33, p<0,01). Besides, it was found that leader member exchange has a mediating effect (β=0,19, p<0,01) on the relationship between perceptıon of psychological contract breach and organizational cynicism.   Results: Since there is a meaningful and negative relationship between the leader-member exchange and the perceptıon of psychological contract breach, it is necessary for leaders to reduce the effects of organizational cynicism by increasing the quality of interaction with external group employees as well as internal group employees.
